The start of something new.

It's taken me the better part of the past year to arrive, and I can't tell you how good it feels to be here.

How it all began.

As many of you know, somatic healing has been part of my journey for several years. It all started in 2017 with the creation of Rise Up, which, if you don't know, is a fitness class that I developed. Rise Up pairs movement and music with guided direction to look inward and listen to what the body is saying. This is a vague description of what occurs throughout the class, but it is cathartic, expansive, and healing. I was amazed at the response to this movement style and how it resonated with participants. I need to find out how often I receive verbal and written feedback on its massive impact on people's lives.

Naturally, I was so curious to learn more. I understood what was happening, but I wanted a deeper understanding of the theory. What were people experiencing, and how could I support them in their journey?

After closing my fitness studio in April 2022, (the pandemic was hard on all of us), I enrolled in Integrative Somatic Therapy Practice through Body Mind Soul Healing Centre in Vancouver, B.C., where I am currently a student in level three. Over the past six months, I have been offering one-on-one sessions to people in my life and witnessed the tremendous impact this type of treatment can provide. I've learned much about what happens in the body when we experience big and little trauma and how we can heal by connecting with the sensations in our body. It's incredible what's possible when we slow down and listen.

So what is somatic healing?

Somatic ("in the body") healing is a body-based approach to treating various symptoms that people may be experiencing, such as stress, pain, discomfort, mood, sleep, grief, and anxiety. Unlike talk therapy, somatic sessions focus on felt sensations in the body rather than discussing traumatic events or difficult emotions. With the support of breathwork, mindfulness, and movement, we can access things that we have repressed, minimized, and pushed aside to create relief physically and emotionally. Learn more here.

If somatic healing sounds like something that would be beneficial to you or someone you know, I am now accepting new clients for one-on-one sessions starting April 17, 2023. I have found a beautiful clinic in Kensington with like-minded practitioners. If you have questions or want to determine if this is a good fit for you, please book a 15 min free consultation by dropping me a note below.

In addition to somatic healing, I continue to teach workshops and group sessions with the hope of expanding these offerings over the coming months. If you're keen to take a Rise Up fitness class and learn more about somatic healing, check out Sweat Therapy. We've got two sessions coming up, and I'd love to see you there.

Wednesday, May 31, 2023 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm (tickets available here)

Thursday, June 1, 2023 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm (sold out)

Does connection with like-minded people, movement, personal growth, and travel interest you? If so, then check out my next retreat. I will be traveling to Panama in January 2024. This will be my third trip returning to Sansara for a Women's Wellness retreat, and I know it will be incredible. We've got a great schedule lined up with yoga, Rise Up, an introduction to surfing, somatic healing, hypnotherapy, and the most delicious meals. Sansara is an incredible place, and I can't wait to share it with you.

I plan to continue to grow my offerings to include additional Rise Up fitness classes, small group somatic healing circles, a retreat in Canada, and expanded clinic hours. If you're planning an event and would like to book me for group somatic healing, a fitness class, or to share my story, send me a note. Similarly, if there is something you're curious about or would like to see more of, touch base with me. I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks for taking the time to read what I've been up over the past year. I am passionate about helping people to make positive changes in their lives and look forward to growing and evolving together.

p.s. If you know someone who could benefit from these offerings, it'd mean so much to me if you could share this with them.
